Kinja'd!!!

I just got the new issue of Hot Rod Magazine and this beast was in it. It is called Thor24, and is powered by two Detroit Diesel two-stroke 12v engines, for a total of 24 cylinders. It also has 8 superchargers, all of which are functional, and makes over 3,000 horsepower. Also, the gearshift lever is a sword and the doors are mounted on hinged axes, because of course they are. This absurd thing is ridiculous and I love it. I don’t want it, but I’m glad that it exists.

I think that is legitimately a 24V71 V24 engine block.

Kinja'd!!!

the Detroit Diesel two strokes were pretty much the definition of a “modular” engine family.  A 24V71 would have four 6-71 heads and four 6V-71 blowers.

That would make more sense, though the article said that they started with two engines and just sort of merged them. Maybe the article is wrong, I don’t know. Either way, it’s still a cool motor.

Looks like it has a turning radius of “Montana”.

the more I think about it, that may have been how Detroit Diesel built them.  The V24 was an officially-offered configuration but AFAIK it’s quite rare.  It probably would have been difficult to cast such a big, long engine block.

Lol. Interestingly, the article said they actually replaced the front suspension with the suspension from a bus to improve the dismal turning radius. Even then, I’m still not sure how you’re supposed to go around corners in this thing.

I’m guessing forward visibility is basically non-existent.

Not sure if it was mentioned in the article but it recently sold at an auction in Saudi Arabia for $12 million.

I want to see what this thing can do towing a 200,000 lb generator up the Ike Gauntlet

Wow. I heard it cost 7 million to build, so I guess they made a profit. I’ve also heard they’re building another one like it, but mid-engined and built for drag racing.

Pretty much. The article said they fitted cameras and screens too it to help with forward visibility.

I think it doesn't go around corners. It scares the road straight.
